_Job Summary:_

We are seeking an experienced full-time obesity medicine provider to provide weight loss clinical services and leadership at the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center (AHWC) Clinic. This individual will work closely with and support other providers, including endocrinologists, internists, gastroenterologists, psychologists, advanced practice providers and dieticians with the ongoing care and treatment of physician-directed weight loss services as described below in detail. This individual will also have an important role in overseeing the clinical operations and help grow the comprehensive weight loss clinic.

The AHWC resides within the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The AWHC is an interdisciplinary center that has become the nation’s go-to source of information and programs related to health and wellness. Top researchers work side-by-side with clinicians to develop and deliver wellness and weight loss programs and work with community interventionists to take these programs beyond the walls of the center into communities. The mission of the center is “to transform the lives of individuals and communities through science-based wellness strategies.”

The vision of the center is “a world empowered by wellness.” All endeavors at the center are focused on this vision. An integrated approach with a common philosophy is core to the development of the center’s programs. These programs strive to involve every area of the business, including wellness clinic services, the fitness center, and the metabolic and demonstration kitchens. Without this integration it is not possible to achieve the vision that catalyzed the development of the AHWC. The center serves as a “learning lab” for creating a model of standard care for wellness centers that can be replicated and exported.

_Supervision Received_:

This position will report to the medical/clinical director of the AHWC and to Bryan Haugen MD, Head of the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes.

_Supervision Exercised_:

This position will help supervise advanced practice providers, fellows, residents, students, dieticians and clinic staff.

_Examples of Work Performed_:

  • Serves as an obesity medicine provider for Weight Loss and Wellness Clinic, working with other providers with the ongoing care and treatment of physician-directed weight loss patients

  • Performs accurate physical examinations, evaluations, diagnoses, treatments, follow-ups, and consultations

  • Supervises and/or coordinates the activities of patient care

  • Reviews referrals and helps coordinate and navigate patient care

  • Assists with medication prescribing and refill requests

  • Obtains patient history and develops comprehensive plan of care

  • Provides health education to patients and/or community health practitioners and groups

  • Participates in programmatic planning, developing specific evidence-based health policies and procedures

  • Practices safety, environmental, and infection control methods

  • Provides individualized patient teaching and counseling utilizing evidence based practice

  • Refers to other providers and practices as needed for patient care and treatment planning

  • Completes necessary documentation in a timely fashion

  • Ensures strict compliance with University and professional policies/procedures

  • Adept at Electronic Health Record (EHR) and EHR trouble shooting, improvement processes, and downtime procedures

  • Actively participates in marketing and patient recruitment

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Active participation in health plan contracts

  • Remains credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current

_Minimum Requirements: Experience, Education, Licensure_

  • MD/DO board certified in internal medicine or family medicine

  • Previous clinical experience in weight management and treatment of obesity

  • Board certified in Obesity Medicine and/or Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes

  • Manager/Director experience in weight management and treatment of obesity

_Conditions of Employment_:

  • Clinical (75%):Six to seven half-day clinics a week at the AHWC clinic

  • Administrative (10%):Serve as medical director of the weight loss clinic

  • Teaching (0-5%):Teaching of medical students, residents and fellows at the bedside and in classroom settings

  • Scholarly activity (10-15%):

o Attendance at conferences within the center and division

o Scholarly activity which can include research projects, clinical trials, QI projects, and writing of scholarly articles.
