Job Title: Associate Dean for Clinical and Community Affairs/Administrative Faculty Appointment

The CU College of Nursing is seeking an exceptional faculty leader to serve as the Associate Dean for Clinical and Community Affairs. The ideal candidate would be qualified to hold a faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or higher with 0.50 FTE dedicated to the Associate Dean for Clinical and Community Affairs administrative faculty appointment.

The University of Colorado, College of Nursing has an opening for an Associate Dean for Clinical and Community Affairs. This 0.50 FTE administrativefaculty appointment serves as the senior administrator overseeing the College’s faculty practice enterprise and is responsible for strategic development, provider support and compliance, practice plan operations, practice finance, and clinical site operations. The Associate Dean is responsible for ensuring that the practice activities are conduected in an efficient and ethical manner, consistent with the rules and regulations of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

The Associate Dean for Clinical and Community Affairs reports directly to the Dean of the College of Nursing and works collaboratively with other members of the Dean’s Council, faculty and staff.

Responsibilities of the Position

  • Strategic Development

o Articulates a compelling, inclusive vision for the future of practice within the CU College of Nursing. Provides strategic leadership in developing and refining the College’s practice mission and activities.

o Provides leadership in defining levels of excellence in nursing practice, in order to guide the College in the conduct of its programs in clinical and community affairs.

o Provides leadership in designing systems of evaluation that ascertain whether levels of excellence are being met within the practice enterprise.

o Provides leadership in designing, implementing, and evaluating models of clinical practice.

o Provides leadership in testing collaborative models in nursing service and education and interdisciplinary models.

  • Practice Plan Operations

o Facilitates interprofessional and collaborative efforts. Reviews relevant campus, federal, and state fiscal policies and procedures related to clinical affairs. Provides leadership in developing specific College of Nursing policies and procedures and directs that College of Nursing operations are consistent with these policies and procedures

  • Designs, in collaboration with faculty, staff, and clinical agencies, a variety of practice opportunities that allow the College to meet its stated goals for community service and faculty practice.

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates programs that reflect trends and needs in service and clinical practice, and that stem from the philosophy and goals of the College of Nursing, the Anschutz Medical Campus and the general University.

  • Provides oversight to provider support functions such as onboarding, credentialing, scheduling, and peer review.

  • Provides oversight to compliance and safety functions for faculty practice.

  • Collaborates with the Office of University Counsel in the development of professional service agreements and MOUs.

  • Establishes and manages positive relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and appropriately represents the College of Nursing and advanced practice.

o Creates a system of accountability through definition and reporting of quality metrics and productivity standards for practice faculty.

o Serves as the designated Chair of the HealthCare Partners Governing Board.

  • Practice Finance

  • Projects budget requirements, administers allocated budgets, and monitors the financial status of clinical accounts.

  • Provides leadership in identifying and developing external funding to support the community service and practice missions of the College.

  • Submits grants and funding requests to external agencies to expand practice initiatives.

  • Clinical Site Operations

  • Provides management oversight of the faculty practice enterprise, including Sheridan Health Services, a multi-site, nurse-led, interprofessional federally qualified health center.

  • Provides management oversight of clinical activities, including current grants and contracts, with an emphasis on efficiency, productivity, and accountability.

o Provides leadership and supervision to clinical directors to ensure consistency in scope of practice, practice guidelines, and patient care quality.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eligible for licensure as an RN in the state of Colorado.

  • Doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
