We are actively recruiting for the full-time faculty position of Section Head of Emergency Medicine at Children’s Hospital Colorado and University of Colorado School of Medicine. Children’s Hospital Colorado is a nationally recognized hospital serving the care of children and this section is the largest section in the institution. This is a 500 bed free-standing children’s hospital in Aurora, CO, with satellite clinical sites around Colorado. The Section of Emergency Medicine sees approximately 170,000 visits per year at 7 emergency department and urgent care sites, and is adding an 8thsite in Colorado Springs in April 2019.
The Section of Emergency Medicine currently employs 43 fellowship-trained pediatric emergency physicians, 40 acute care general pediatricians, and 53 advanced practice providers. These 136 faculty are supported by 8 full-time administrative staff, 7 research staff, 1 biostatistician and one PhD. The Section is strong in clinical research, currently holds 17 active grant awards totaling nearly $1 million and is an active member of the Pediatric Emergency Care Research Network (PECARN). It has a nationally recognized fellowship program in emergency medicine.
We are seeking a leader with a vision towards advancing clinical care, research and education to address the mission of the Section in managing the clinical sites, building the program in the new hospital being developed in Colorado Springs, enhancing the research program, and building strong relationships in the Network of Care that includes surrounding states. We also seek to enhance the relationship with our colleagues in adult Emergency Medicine.
_Examples of Work Performed_
Oversees the programmatic and financial operations of the Section to ensurefinancial and human resources are available to supportresearch, clinical care, educational, and advocacy/policy activities.
Develops innovative clinical, educational and research programs to enhance the local standing and national reputation of the Section.
Leads fellowship program in collaboration with fellowship program director
Supports faculty recruitment and building the infrastructure for faculty development.
Builds and maintains partnerships with affiliate institutions and community organizations locally, nationally and internationally.
Directs and strategically expands patient care operations.
Establishes strong metrics and outcomes for clinical and academic performance.
Recruits and develops faculty and interdisciplinary professionals to support the clinical and academic missions
Oversees departmental compliance with regulatory requirements and quality improvement
Serves as the Department Chair for Emergency Medicine at the Children’s Hospital Colorado
Oversees credentialing review and approval of all faculty in Emergency Medicine including initial and ongoing performance evaluation.
Facilitates collaboration in academic and clinical care with other sections within the Department of Pediatrics as well as Departments within the University of Colorado School of Medicine and other health services.
The Section Head of Emergency Medicine will collaborate with Trauma, Burn and EMS/Flight for Life to help direct local and regional care, education and outreach.
Salary and Benefits:
**The hiring salary for this position is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

MD or DO
Board Certification in Emergency Medicine
Must be licensed or able to obtain licensure in the State of Colorado
5-10 years of experience managing complex organizations, including strategic planning, program development, financial management, and organizational change
Minimum faculty rank of Associate Professor with preferred Professor level
Experience with and commitment to faculty career development through mentoring

Board Certification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine
