Nature of Work:
The Section of Allergy & Immunology of the Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Pediatric Allergist/Immunologist, with particular focus and experience in Immunology, for the evaluation and care of patients with immunodeficiency and other immune disorders in inpatient and outpatient settings, and to participate in the education of students and residents in accordance with the mission of the University of Colorado School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics.

Examples of Work Performed:
The candidate will provide oversight and care of patients with immunodeficiency and other immunologic and allergic diseases. These services will be performed at the main campus of Children’s Hospital Colorado and possibly at Network of Care locations. The candidate will participate in immunology call coverage for the Allergy & Immunology Section, including inpatient and outpatient consultations. The candidate will also participate in the teaching of fellows and residents assigned to her/his clinic and service rotations.
The applicant would be expected to help expand the clinical immunology programs within Children’s Hospital Colorado, the Anschutz Medical Campus and across a 7-state referral region, including, but not inclusive of the following, for example:
Develop combined multidisciplinary clinics: Hematology/Oncology (bone marrow transplantation); Rheumatology (immune dysregulation); Pulmonology (interstitial lung disease); Infectious Diseases (inability to clear certain infections, such as EBV/CMV/HSV); Cardiology (evaluation/management of patients with surgical repairs and thymus removal)
Development of the infusion center within the new Allergy & Immunology Center opening February 2018; evaluation of patients for use of biologics (which biologics for patients and pre-dosing immune evaluation)
Development of telemedicine: CHCO covers all of Colorado for the SCID newborn screening program and telemedicine would enhance patient care
Development of an Immunology Lab within CHCO: work in conjunction with Genetics, Heme/Onc, informatics, and other groups
Partner with BMT as Co-PI on PID treatment consortium projects
Development of industry-funded clinical trials
Expansion of teaching to pediatric residents, medical students, graduate students
Community outreach: give didactic talks to community pediatricians and allergists
To accomplish the work above, this is a clinical immunology position (0.5 clinical FTE to cover clinic and up to 2 weeks of call per month). However, .3 protected time will be allotted for the candidate to be able to develop the above programs and develop research (industry and/or investigator-initiated) for additional protected time.
Successful completion of a pediatric residency.
Recognized as Board Certified/Eligible by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology.
State of Colorado medical license and DEA license must be obtained on or before the hire date.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The candidate should have the knowledge and ability to provide expert oversight and medical management of children with compleximmunodeficiency and other immune disorderswho often have other significant medical issues.
Excellent communication skills and teaching ability is also required.
Experience in evaluating and managing patients with complex immune disorders.
Experience in teaching medical students and residents
Associate rank will be considered if academic accomplishments reflect rank.
Salary and Benefits:
The hiring salary for this position is and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation. The University of Colorado offers a full benefits package.
