_Nature of Work:_

Jobs in this career family involve development, marketing and management of messaging to both internal and external parties. Functions include marketing; advertising; communications; publications; brand management; writing; editing; proofreading; graphic design; web information architecture, development and design; web content development; electronic communications; social media; news media/relations; public relations; photography; videography; radio/television broadcasting; FCC compliance; and communication projects management.

Program Managers are responsible for the day-to-day operation of a program, function or work unit, including the development and implementation of processes consistent with college, school or departmental strategies and processes. These positions typically do not supervise others.

_Position Emphasis:_

The Communications Program Manager develops and implements internal communications strategies to keep employees in all mission areas informed and engaged and to help foster collaboration. Creates and executes external communications strategies to reach preceptors, alumni, medical students, the broader Anschutz campus and the University, as well as other similar departments across the country. Leads content-gathering for communication pieces, including researching and gathering information for department newsletters, web content, fliers, annual reports, etc. Works with the School of Medicines web administrators, graphic designers and other creative services to ensure content is current, accurate and aesthetically effective. Develops public relations strategies, writing press releases, pitching story ideas and representing the department to the media and community. Has overall responsibility for brand management and identity. Measures results and reports regularly on the effectiveness of communications. The Communications Program Manager must be adept at building trust at all levels of the Department and University, and must also be skillful in promoting the Department’s interests with diplomacy.

_Salary and Benefits:_

The hiring salary for this position is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

_Minimum Qualifications:_

  • A bachelor’s degree in English, marketing, journalism, public relations, communications, business administration, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

  • The position requires extensive, diverse and progressively responsible experience including direct responsibility for developing, executing and managing communications and marketing strategies and activities.

_Preferred Qualifications:_

  • 7 years’ experience in communications/marketing.

  • Experience working with and proficiency in design programs.

  • Experience with external communication.

  • Experience working in healthcare sector.

  • Experience working in higher education or non-profit setting.

  • Experience working in an Academic Healthcare Research setting.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite.
