The Marcus Institute for Brain Health (MIBH) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is a clinical care and research institute for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Psychological Health (PH) conditions such as post-traumatic stress, depression, and anxiety. The primary focus of the MIBH is to care for former military personnel who have separated from active duty, with special consideration for those who were separated with “Other Than Honorable” or “Dishonorable” discharge status due to TBI or PH conditions. The MIBH also serves civilian adults who have sustained mild to moderate TBI, and are experiencing ongoing neurological problems and co-morbid PH conditions. The MIBH offers intensive outpatient care with detailed diagnostic and treatment services within an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that integrates conventional with complementary and alternative medicine, utilizing an interdisciplinary team model.

The MIBH is looking for a Communications Program Coordinator, which involves development, marketing and management of messaging to both internal and external parties. Functions include marketing; advertising; communications; publications; brand management; writing; editing; proofreading; graphic design; web information architecture, development and design; web content development; electronic communications; social media; news media/relations; public relations; photography; videography; radio/television broadcasting; FCC compliance; and communication projects management. This position is responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed at an advanced or expert level.

The Communications Program Coordinator is a member of the MIBH Veteran Programs/Communications team reporting to the Veteran Program Director. The Communications Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the overall program strategy, implementation and functioning for all aspects of veteran programs (including developing a volunteer program), communications and strategic development, and ensures all veteran program goals are aligned with the greater vision and mission of MIBH. This position may include up to 25% travel.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, implement and maintain a fully functional Volunteer Program

  • Develop strong partnerships with national outreach programs to benefit and grow MIBH and its network visibility through proactive engagement across the veteran community to include visible participation in organizational events (may include travel)

  • Assist with generating and developing veteran referral sources and community and business partner organizations for the MIBH and its nationwide networks

  • Assist with communications and promotional campaign across all mediums between veteran programs and the other departments to drive MIBH’s visibility, value and mission

  • Update and maintain the MIBH website including content creation

  • Update and maintain the MIBH presence on Social Media platforms including content creation (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn)

  • Assist the Director with administrative and logistic duties related to database development and maintenance, travel and expense reports, and proposal development

  • Facilitate and participate in outings with patient and partner organizations as well as outreach opportunities

  • Collaborate with the Case Management team on patient referrals and referral sources in line with the patient after-care program

  • Assist with the design, development, and implementation of the Veteran Programs strategy and achieving all Veteran Program goals aligned to the greater vision and mission of MIBH

  • Assist with presenting organization information, including metrics, goals, and progress to major funders, possible partners and businesses interested in working with the MIBH and its National Network

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation

  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications, business administration, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

  • Four years of professional experience that includes all of the following:

o Experience with various social media applications

o Experience in marketing and communications

o Experience as a volunteer

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in volunteer management

  • Experience working with Veteran outreach programs, which include managing the launch, implementation and operations of such programs

  • Experience generating and developing Veteran referral sources

  • Experience working within a higher education and/or medical education environment

  • Military experience at a minimum rank of E-5 or 0-3

  • Experience working in a startup and/or small teams


  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
