The Office of Grants and Contracts has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Finance & Accounting Sr Professional position.

Senior Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed fully independently.

_Nature of Work_

This position consists of a combination of accounting and federal grant administrative support –it requires strong accounting/reconciliation knowledge to work with large datasets as well as knowledge of Federal Letter of Credit awards and reporting requirements for those awards. As a result, this position needs to have not only a strong accounting understanding of accounting concepts, principles and theories, but also be educated and responsible for reporting based on federal policies and procedures related to Letter of Credit Draws and Quarterly Reporting.

_Examples of Work Performed:_

  • All processes to create Letter of credit invoices in the PeopleSoft system. This includes a pre-review to determine allowable draw amounts and review of billing plans for LOC projects. When the process is run, balance sheet entries are created based on invoice amount. This position is responsible for those entries and making sure they are being created by the system without errors. When errors occur this position will perform all needed troubleshooting.

  • Completing the draw of Letter of Credit funds via sponsors external draw systems.

  • Reconcile and analyze cash with sponsor balances against budget, expenses and revenue for Letter of Credit projects for quarterly 272 reporting.

  • Work with Post award on LOC Documents that are closing to ensure, GL, reporting and draws are all tied out. This includes monitoring and following up on discrepancies with post award where there is not a tie to ensure tie for final closeout.

  • Completing monthly Bank and PeopleSoft Reconciliations for LOC draws, Clinical Trial Payment posting activities and Title IV draws and posting activities.

  • Will be assigned a closeout population to obtain, analyze and interpret financial data required for Federal Financial Status Reports and Non-federal Financial Reports of Expenditure. Review data with departments as appropriate to ensure the accuracy of the data. Review all financial documents for sponsored research approval.

  • Review and prepare project accounts for closure, resolve cash deficits and accounts receivable issues, resolve outstanding encumbrance or payable issues, process refunds or fund transfers if necessary, prepare correcting entries and close projects in the University finance system.

  • Consult with internal department personnel and external department personnel regarding allowable expenses and balances as related to closeouts.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation

_Minimum Qualifications:_

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution

  • 2 years of professional level accounting experience

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

_Preferred Qualifications:_

  • Experience using PeopleSoft in a higher education environment.

  • Experience with grant closeout processes.

  • Experience with federal grants.
