Our fellowship program is based on the strong belief that there is an important role for highly trained early childhood mental health specialists to provide services to programs that serve infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and their families in pregnancy and throughout early childhood. After completing the fellowship, participants typically pursue careers in clinical, academic, community, and training settings and engage in activities including direct service, teaching, supervision, consultation, program development/administration, and clinical research. The program uses a relationship-based and family-strengths perspective for understanding the difficulties, challenges, and disorders that affect young children and their families. Fellows provide a variety of early childhood services, including weekly individual, group, and/or parent- child dyadic therapy, developing treatment plans, consultation with parents and families about behavioral interventions, and parent education. The program has a specific focus on integrated behavioral health services in health care and community settings through consultation with primary care, pediatric, allied health, and public health professionals related to behavior management, pregnancy related mood and anxiety disorders, and developmental interventions.
