The/Colorado Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CCTSI)/has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified),/IT Security Specialist/position.

Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.

At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.


Job Summary:*

The Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CCTSI) Informatics Core has an opening for an Information Technology (IT) Security Specialist. This specialist will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing CCTSI Informatics Core activities related to information security, in particular as they relate to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy and Security Rules. The IT Security Specialist will lead information security activities for the multifaceted portfolio of enterprise systems, applications, and solutions supported by the CCTSI.


Examples of Work Performed:*

  • Coordinate communication and activities between the CCTSI Informatics team and the University Office of IT Security team

  • Collaborate with team members, peers, and business units to determine technical information security requirements for systems, applications, and solutions

  • Identify and prioritize potential information security risks and effectively communicate those risks to business leaders

  • Create, update and review HIPAA documentation and risk mitigation controls

  • Develop, implement, and maintain system security policies and procedures and secure system and network architectures

  • Develop, implement, and maintain procedures for incident response to meet regulatory needs

  • Assist in the development and refinement of technical security standards

  • Generate regular and as needed status reports that demonstrate the security of the program to business leaders

  • Perform timely incident responses, security assessments, and investigations. Communicate results to business leaders

  • Monitor security alerts and identify and prioritize potential threats

  • Participate in ongoing training and self-study about the CCTSI, the Anschutz Medical Campus, and intrusion detection methodologies and services

  • Ensure that security devices contain up-to-date signature libraries

  • Provide process and operational improvement suggestions

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Computer Programming, or similar from an accredited institution

  • At least one (1) year of experience working in an Information Technology related position

  • Experience conducting information security risk assessment, control analysis, and vulnerability assessments

  • Substitution: A combination of education, certification, and relevant work experience may substitute for the bachelor’s degree

Salary and Benefits:

  • The salary range (or the hiring range) for this position has been established at $54,000 - $70,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience

  • This position is not eligible for overtime compensation
