  • Participate in Continuing Medical Education activities to assure continued delivery of quality pediatric burn and trauma care

  • Monitor and participate in pediatric burn and trauma outreach activities

  • Engage in and direct pediatric burn and trauma research, to include submitting projects for publication and presentation at local, regional, and national meetings

  • Assure medical staff compliance with burn and trauma policies and procedures

  • Foster positive working relationships with liaisons from other services

  • Maintain liaisons with hospitals and other institutions providing burn and trauma care in the region

  • Oversee ambulatory burn patient care, including new patient consults and follow ups

  • Oversee inpatient burn rounds and consults

  • Provide operative care for a broad spectrum of pediatric surgical conditions, including all facets of general pediatric surgery, trauma and acute care surgery, with a focus on pediatric burn surgery

  • Call coverage shared within group

  • Contribute to clinical research and training of Pediatric Surgery residents and fellows

  • Oversee inpatient rounds and consults for the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery (TACS) service

  • Assume oversight responsibility for the care of all trauma patients at Children's Hospital Colorado, including leadership support at non-Anschutz campus sites of care

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Assistant Professor:

  • Medical Degree from an accredited School of Medicine

  • Eligibility for Board Certification in Pediatric Surgery

  • Demonstrated proficiency in pediatric surgical clinical, education and research efforts

  • Ability to obtain license to practice as a physician in the state of Colorado with prescriptive privileges

  • Eligibility for Board Certification in Critical Care

Associate Professor:

  • Board Certification in Pediatric Surgery

  • 5+ years' proficiency in pediatric surgical clinical, education and research efforts

  • Ability to obtain license to practice as a physician in the state of Colorado with prescriptive privileges

  • Board Certification in Critical Care

  • 5+ years' proficiency in pediatric surgical clinical, education and research efforts

  • Ability to obtain license to practice as a physician in the state of Colorado with prescriptive privileges

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Pediatric Surgery Fellowship

The Division of Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has available at an open rank of for a surgeon focused specifically on trauma, critical care, and burns. The position includes inpatient and outpatient medical care services, and resident training for general Pediatric Surgery Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO)), Denver Health, St. Joseph's Medical Center, as well as other local campuses and Colorado Springs. All candidates will be expected to provide independent clinical services, supervise advance practice providers (APPs) in the provision of independent clinical services for patients, as well as teach and supervise residents and fellows. These duties will include inpatient and outpatient clinical services, as well as inpatient and outpatient surgeries at CHCO and its affiliated practice locations. The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services primarily for the Pediatric Surgical Service at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO). Duties will include primarily coordination of care of the following inpatient teams and outpatient clinics: Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Burns. The open rank surgeon will participate in the Division of Pediatric Surgery's Network of Care, which includes coverage responsibilities at our North Campus, South Campus, Denver Health, St. Joseph's, and Colorado Springs. The position will be primarily based at the Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO. This position is ideal for a Pediatric Surgeon with interest and expertise in surgical critical care, burns, and trauma. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in pediatric burn surgery (debridements, coverage, grafting) and surgical critical care. They will be a part of our multidisciplinary Pediatric Burn Program, which includes inpatient and outpatient care. In addition to examples provided above, position will also coordinate care for inpatients and outpatients on the Pediatric Burn Service.
