Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care to children, adolescents, and their families, including completing diagnostic evaluations, and evidence-based individual, family, and/or group intervention.

  • Develops and implements evidence-based treatment plans and engages in ongoing treatment monitoring.

  • Collaborates with internal and external providers involved in a patient's care as needed to coordinate on the treatment plan and progress.

  • Maintains timely communication with team members, supervisor, and divisional leadership.

  • Provides psychological intervention to participants enrolled in clinical research studies.

  • Supervise, teach, and mentor psychology trainees and consult with other mental health providers.

  • Teach/mentor pediatric endocrinology fellows as appropriate.

  • Engage in program development, quality improvement, and/or scholarship, including collaboration on grants.

  • Serve on committees, task forces, and/or workgroups.

  • Enter appropriate notes and charge captures that comply with state and federal standards in the medical record for all patients seen.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Instructor:

  • 1-2 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum degree qualifications: PhD and/or PsyD

  • Applicants must possess a Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado.

  • Must have significant prior experience in pediatric psychology, providing integrated services in healthcare settings serving children and adolescents, have completed an APA-approved Ph.D. or Psy.D Psychology training program, including an APA-approved internship and a relevant post-doctoral fellowship.

  • Experience working with pediatric populations in healthcare settings and experience working with families

  • Must obtain Medical staff privileges at Children's Hospital system locations.

Sr. Instructor:

  • 3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum degree qualifications: PhD and/or PsyD

  • Applicants must possess a Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skills in the use of developmentally and diagnostically appropriate screening and assessment tools

  • Demonstrated skills using evidence-based treatment models including but not limited motivational interviewing, consultation models, and flexible application of behavioral and developmental interventions to address medical and mental health concerns

  • Experience and skill in consulting with professional colleagues and healthcare staff

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Clinical skill is required for conducting brief and targeted assessments and consultations in integrated healthcare settings

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team model and with colleagues, medical specialists, and trainees

  • Capacity for flexibility and adaptability in different work situations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentations to community audiences

Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes/Department of Pediatrics, University of Colorado School of Medicinehas an opening for a full-time faculty Pediatric Psychologist at the academic rank of Assistant Professor, Senior Instructor or Instructor. The pediatric psychologist will provide direct patient care to children, adolescents, and young adults with type 1 diabetes, at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes (BDC). This includes diagnostic assessment and treatment for youth with a variety of psychological concerns affecting medical management of type 1 diabetes, including (but not limited to): depression, anxiety, emotional distress and difficulty regulating emotions, self-harm, suicidality, diabetes distress, challenges with diabetes self-management, and other behavioral challenges. The pediatric psychologist will primarily provide outpatient care to youth at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes. Depending on availability and interest, the psychologist may also be able to provide group-based interventions. In addition to clinical care, the psychologist will also be actively involved in teaching and clinical supervision of fellows as part of the Barbara Davis Center's T32 fellowship program that trains pediatric endocrinology and psychology fellows. Depending on experience, interests and funding, the psychologist will also have opportunities for program development and clinical research.
