Professional Research Assistant

The Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Diabetes is looking for a full time Professional Research Assistant to work in the laboratories of Drs. Eckel and Bruce within the School of Medicine located on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The successful applicant will investigate lipid and lipoprotein metabolism in the central nervous system as well as the role of Lipoprotein Lipase in Alzheimer's disease, and to test potential therapeutics in both in vivo and in vitro systems while on a 2-year funded project.
_Specific Position Duties_
Approximately 90% of position will require expertise in cellular and molecular biology and experience with animal genetics and behavior. Specifically, this will involve (but is not limited too):
Generation and maintenance of large murine cohorts
Implementation of rodent cognitive performance using Morris water maze and other neurobehavioral tests
Tissue collection and processing
Histology (specifically for central nervous system tissues)
Analysis of protein and gene expression
Analysis of enzyme activity and function
Primary culture of glial cells
Approximately 5% of position:
Present results at lab meetings
Present results at project meetings such as research in progress
Approximately 5% of the position:
General Administrative and Research Compliance
Perform all research compliance activities required by the University of Colorado Denver-Anschutz Medical Campus
Perform general administrative duties as requested within lab

Bachelors degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Microbiology, Physiology, Biochemistry, or related field
Experience in a research laboratory setting
*note, educational experience will not substitute for prior professional experience
Prior experience with murine models of disease
Experience with gene editing tools such as CRISPR
Prior experience with in situ hybridizations, immunostaining or similar detection methods
Experience with culture of primary glial cells
