Professional Research Assistant

A full-time PROFESSIONAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT position is available working with Kristen Demoruelle, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Division of Rheumatology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Demoruelle’s research focuses on understanding the earliest steps in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) development, specifically where and how RA-related autoantibodies initially develop and sex differences in that process. Her studies primarily investigate the generation of RA-related antibodies in the lung and female genital tract in human subjects with RA and subjects at high risk of developing RA.

The successful candidate will be the study coordinator for Dr. Demoruelle’s studies, working with other PRAs, lab technicians, pre-doctoral and post-doctoral trainees. She/He will work with Dr. Demoruelle to ensure regulatory compliance of all studies and modify research protocols as needed. She/He will perform clinical research study visits, including obtaining informed consent, collecting data and study samples. She/He will organize lab meetings and ensure appropriate progress of research studies. She/He will also work with Dr. Demoruelle to develop a Women’s Health in Autoimmunity program that will include building a patient registry that can be used to understand unique issues in pregnancy, the postpartum period and sex differences in disease outcomes for patients in the UCH Rheumatology Clinic. This position has room for advancement to a senior PRA position.

Job Responsibilities:The duties and responsibilities of this position will include, but will not be restricted to:

  • Manage regulatory compliance of studies including submissions to and interactions with COMIRB

  • Track subject participation

  • Perform clinical study visits, including obtaining informed consent, collecting data and study samples

  • Organize lab team meetings and prepare progress reports for studies

  • Ensure appropriate progress on recruitment and data collection for all studies

  • Modify research protocols including informed consents as needed

  • Assist with subject recruitment and enrollment

  • Diagnose and problem solve as needed for all studies

  • Monitor study budgets in conjunction with divisional administrative staff

  • Collaborate with PI to develop a new patient registry in the UCH Rheumatology Clinic that focuses on women’s health and sex differences in rheumatology

Required education/experience/skills (minimum qualifications):

Bachelor’s degree, 2 years of experience as PRA in clinical research, computer proficiency

Desired qualifications: Strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a team, willing and able to acquire new skills as needed. Preferred experience in women’s health research.
