Professional Research Assistant

The Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Diabetes in the School of Medicine located on Anschutz Medical Campus is looking to find a Professional Research Assistant for studies in the integrative physiology of type 1 and 2 diabetes and insulin resistance.
Individual will split time, working 50-75% time in a lipidomics/mass spectrometry core and 25-50% time helping with human clinical research studies. the ideal individual will be able to multi-task many duties simultaneously, work independently with excellent time management, and have considerable experience working independently on GC/MS, and LC/MS/MS instrumentation. Individual will prepare human blood samples for stable isotope enrichment using GC/MS (glucose, glycerol, free fatty acids, etc...), run samples independently on GC/MS instruments, quality control and analyze data, troubleshoot the instrument independently, and provide isotope enrichment data for investigators on campus. This individual will also be expected to perform all routine maintenance of GC/MS instrument. This individual will also be expected to help develop LC/MS methods for lipidomics analysis and contribute to the lipidomic core by helping to lipid extract, run and analyze biological samples using LC/MS/MS platforms. The ideal individual will also have extensive experience fixing and troubleshooting ABSciex LC/MS/MS instruments to help keep the core running smoothly. This individual will also work independently with extensive cell culture work including growing primary muscle cell cultures. Work independently preparing conditioned media from adipose tissue samples in human clinical studies to evaluate factors secreted by adipose tissue. This individual will be part of a team of investigators, and will be expected to perform routine laboratory duties to help the laboratory operate smoothly.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Clinical research knowledge, GC/MS and LC/MS theory, preparation, troubleshooting, and instrumentation.
Minimum Requirements: One year plus lab experience, a bachelor's degree in biology, integrative physiology, physiology, biochemistry or Chemistry.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in a basic or translational research laboratory. Familiarity with GC/MS and LC/MS instrumentation outside of a classroom setting with extensive experience fixing and troubleshooting highly desired. Positive attitude and dedicated work ethic.
