_Job Summary:_

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Allergy and Immunology has an opening for a full-time professional research assistant. This position will be based at the HTC, which is located on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The primary responsibilities of this position include the utilization of immunological techniques including flow cytometry, cell culture and immunoassays to develop novel diagnostic assays for assessment of patients with immune deficiency, immune dysregulation and allergy and support research and clinical studies within the section of Allergy and Immunology, Department of Pediatrics.

_Examples of Work Performed:_

  • Will spend 80% of their time on flow cytometry and cell culture based assays and projects.

  • Work with the senior scientist and laboratory director.

  • Will train on flow cytometry techniques and assist with developing assays for the detection of a variety of human immune cells.

  • Will also be involved in developing assays for human immune function including intracellular cytokine staining and analysis of phosphorylated proteins.

  • Will also assist in performing research projects focused on understanding the immunological responses in food allergy. These assays will include using both cell culture and flow cytometry to evaluate basophil and other immune cells' responses to food allergens.

  • Will also be involved in banking of research study samples including cryopreservation of cells and maintaining a database with sample information.

  • 20% of the PRA's time will be spent on maintaining detailed laboratory notes, assisting with routine laboratory maintenance and laboratory inventory.

  • Expected to attend laboratory meetings and present their experimental data when required.

_Minimum Qualifications:_

  • BA/BS Degree.

  • A least a year of laboratory bench experience, familiarity with sterile techniques for cell or tissue culture is an advantage but not necessary for this position.

  • Demonstrates curiosity and enthusiasm to learn new techniques.

  • Ability work well in a team environment.

_Conditions of Employment:_

  • Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado.

  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex-offender background check.
