Professional Research Assistant

The Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Diabetes in the Department of Medicine / School of Medicine located on Anschutz Medical Campus is looking for a highly motivated, dedicated individual interested in tumor biology and endocrine cancer research. The project involves adrenal cancer which is a deadly disease with limited treatment options. We have developed the first new cell and animal models to use to find new therapies for our patients. The position will be working closely with the members of the Wierman lab in molecular and cell biology techniques at the bench and work with mice implanted with tumor cells derived from patient’s tumors.
The individual should have experience in the field of molecular biology and interest in tumor biology. They will be an integral member of the team working to develop new markers for tumor aggressiveness and new treatments for patients with adrenal cancer and other endocrine tumors. The laboratory environment is team-oriented, where motivation and dedication are rewarded.
The individual will be involved in the study of new genes in human tumor samples, cell lines and animal models. This will include performing cell culture, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, cell culture assays, transfection/transduction for overexpression and knock down, PCR, sequencing, DNA/RNA/protein extraction and Western blotting. It also will include preparation of human tissues and blood samples, and collecting corresponding clinical data. Xenograft animal experiments will be performed to test new targeted therapies in patient tumor samples.

BA/BS in Science with laboratory experience
Experience with general molecular biology laboratory techniques
An understanding of genetics and molecular genetics
Good verbal and written communication skills and understanding of scientific literature
Excellent organizational and record keeping skills
The individual must be reliable, pay attention to detail, and be able to multi-task efficiently
Excellence with computer skills with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Ability to actively problem-solve, be proactive and work within a team
Experience with DNA/RNA/Protein extraction
Experience with cell culture, immunohistochemistry, immunoblots, PCR, transfections, transductions
Prior work with nude mice or other rodent models
