Research Associate

Overall description of responsibility or nature of work:

This full-time Research Associate position will perform experiments to investigate the ability of autoreactive B lymphocytes, known to exist in healthy individuals and wild type mice, to mount (auto-) antibody responses against pathogens that camouflage as self to avoid host immunity. Experiments will include ex vivo and in vitro analyses as well as in vivo mouse studies with the goal of determining whether inflammatory settings relax tolerance to allow autoreactive but anergic B cells to mount cross-reactive antibody responses. This position will be in the laboratory of Raul Torres, in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The successful candidate for this postdoctoral position will have considerable experience working with both rodent models and human peripheral blood samples and have proven ability in carrying a research project forward as demonstrated by multiple first author publications. The successful candidate for this Research Associate position will also be expected to have extensive experience in the flow cytometric identification and analyses of rare populations of B cells or other immune cells in peripheral blood of humans and lymphoid tissue of mice. The individual should be detail-oriented, organized, and with a strong record of publications. S/he will work within a team of researchers working to advance scientific knowledge of lymphocyte mediated immune functions.

Mouse handling and manipulation

In vivo, ex vivo and in vitro lymphocyte assays

ELISPOT and ELISA assays and data analyses

PCR and cloning

Quantitative PCR, DNA and RNA analyses


Protein expression and purification

Immunofluorescent histology

Validate quality of data elements/data editing

Develop and maintain research databases

Data presentation and participation in scientific meetings

Manuscript preparation

Perform other tasks, as needed

Minimum qualifications

  • PhD degree (or its equivalent in experience) in Immunology or closely related field

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous postdoctoral fellowship experience

  • 8 years investigating immunity in rodent models and/or humans
