_Job Summary:_

The University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campusis seeking applications for a Senior Professional Research Assistant (Sr. PRA). This full-time, University Staff (non-classified) position is responsible for: Laboratory-based translational research on pediatric cancer immunotherapy within the laboratory of Dr. Terry Fry. As well as conduct experiments, assist with project planning, data interpretations, publications for lab, assist with project planning and training of new lab members.

_Examples of Work Performed:_

  • Collaborate and supervise PRAs and other lab personnel

  • Conducting mouse experiments is a major job responsibility (injecting tumor cells into mouse brains, mouse anesthesia, pre/post-op care, following mice for symptoms of tumor growth, medication administration, mouse sacrifice and tissue harvesting); animal facility staff does day-to-day mouse care, so this is not a usual part of job responsibility

  • Maintaining leukemia cell lines in culture

  • Expansion, activation genetic modification of human T cells in culture

  • Molecular cloning

  • In vitro immune assays

  • Assist with murine studies

  • Conducting experiments using techniques including drug/radiation treatment of cell lines, western blot, shRNA transfection/infection, qPCR, protein/RNA extraction, flow cytometry/cell sorting, immunofluorescence microscopic cell imaging

  • Preparing data for discussion and presentation

  • Attending department conferences and meetings

  • Attending and presenting at lab meetings

  • Leading lab management, including purchasing and maintaining budgets

  • Supervising student research assistants when present, especially in the summer; assisting in training junior lab staff/trainees

PLEASENOTE: Candidates may be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

_Salary and Benefits:_

The hiring salary range for this position is set at $60,000-$80,000, and is negotiable and commensurate with years of experience and related skills. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

_Minimum Qualifications:_

  • Masters degree in biology or related field;

  • At least Three (3) years of cancer, molecular, or cell biology lab experience

_Condition of Employment:_

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado;

  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background and sex offender registry check.

_Required Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:_

  • Strong verbal and written communication in English

  • Ability to stay organized with multiple projects/experiments and carry out tasks, sometimes under time pressure

  • Knowledgeable of professional laboratory protocol

_Preferred Qualifications:_

  • Significant experience with lab mouse models

  • Cell culture experience

  • Previous experience in presenting or publishing biology research

  • Lab management and student training experience
