Data Analyst

NATURE OF WORK

The Lifecourse Epidemiology of Adiposity and Diabetes (LEAD) Center at the Colorado School of Public Health (CoSPH) has an opening for a full-time (1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week) Senior Professional Research Assistant (Sr.PRA)/ Data Analyst.

The Colorado School of Public Health (CoSPH) represents a multi-university collaboration between University of Colorado (CU), Colorado State University (CSU), and University of Northern Colorado (UNC), whose mission is to inspire academicians, practitioners, and students of public health to work collaboratively to assure that all people and communities are healthy and their environments sustainable.

The LEAD Center is a groundbreaking research center that investigates and seeks to understand the developmental origins of health and disease, particularly obesity, type 1 and type 2 diabetes and the complex interplay of environmental exposures, genetic and epigenetic processes in critical developmental periods in life. LEAD scientists aim to understand the causes of disease, and ultimately translate the findings into preventive actions.

The Sr. PRA will perform duties to support the LEAD Center. The main responsibilities include systematic literature reviews, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

This position will report directly to Brandy Ringham, PhD, Director of Biostatistics for the LEAD Center.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

-Ensure study data are stored and used in a HIPAA compliant manner.

-Prepare study design, power analyses and statistical analysis plans for LEAD Center studies

-Perform data cleaning and create analytic datasets

-Provide descriptive statistics for key variables, including demographics and important health outcomes

-Perform data analyses and data visualizations for LEAD Center studies

-Understand and interpret results from statistical analyses

-Document the processes used in the development of analytic datasets and all stages of analysis, including a clear summary of what work was performed, how to implement the work and where all components of the work are stored

-Adhere to a strict system of documentation, archiving and error checking throughout all stages of project planning, analysis and reporting to ensure that results are correct and reproducible

-Meet with epidemiologists, nutritionists and other scientists to understand their research question and gather their input on the analyses planned or performed.

-Assist with manuscript and grant preparation, including systematic reviews of the literature, writing publication ready statistical methods and results sections, and bibliography preparation

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

-Knowledge of foundational statistical concepts, through coursework and work experience

-Experience in a public health research environment

-Prior data analytic experience, including data cleaning, modeling to identify statistically significant associations and data visualization

-Prior experience writing data analysis plans, power analyses and research grant applications

-Familiarity with statistical methods in nutrition or epidemiology research

-Experience in SAS and R programming

-Familiar with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access

-Familiarity with other data analysis and visualization tools is a plus (e.g., SQL, Python, Tableau)

-Good organizational skills and high attention to detail

-Strong writing skills, particularly scientific writing

-Excellent oral communication skills

-Strong interest in learning

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The salary range at the Senior PRA level is $55,000 to $75,000. Actual salary will be commensurate with skills and experience. The University of Colorado offers a full benefits package.
