Job Title: Temporary Medication Dispensing Nurse-LPN

This is a Temporary position limited to no more than 9-months.

Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform work related to dispensing medications, drawing blood from patients, and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Perform work duties among three ARTS clinic locations in Aurora, Arvada and Denver.

  • Report to the Program Director of MAT/Nursing Operations.

  • Work up to a maximum of 40 hours per week as follows: 5:00am to 1:30pm on Monday through Friday, and/or 5:00am to 10:00am on Saturday. (Note: there is no work on Sundays, federal holidays, or any days observed as a holiday by the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus).

  • Dispense medications to patients including, but not limited to: Methadone, Suboxone, Naltrexone, Antabuse and Vivitrol.

  • Transport medication in a manner consistent with DEA, State, and Federal, rules and regulations, while abiding by ARTS policies and procedures to include but not limited to using a lock box.

  • Transport patient medications to locations such as: correctional facilities, rehabilitation facilities, inpatient treatment facilities, and/or any location as directed by the Program Director of MAT/Nursing Operations.

  • Assess patients' needs for physical exams, and report observations to physicians and/or counselors.

  • Monitor each patient's vital signs and health condition.

  • Blood Drawing for labs and/or obtaining test results.

  • Administer tuberculosis (TB) tests.

  • Assess adverse patients' reactions to medications, and issues relating to drug overdose, HIV, and/or HCV.

  • Handle infectious materials, human blood or other body fluids according to applicable policy and procedures.

  • Maintain current and accurate records and treatment notes as required by policy.

  • Maintain accurate inventory records of medications according to all regulatory agency standards.

  • Produce and maintain other records as directed by the supervisor.

  • Compose medication reports and provide them to medical staff and counselors. Attend team meetings and case conferences.

  • Attend approved training sessions and professional development opportunities to upgrade skills, obtain and/or maintain required certifications and/or licenses.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Possess, and maintain in good standing, a valid Intravenous (IV) certification as issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA).

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Two years of nursing, nursing assistance, dispensing medication, and/or a combination of other professional experience related to this position.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must agree to, and successfully pass, a criminal background check

  • Must agree to, and successfully pass, a fingerprint check

  • Subject to pre-employment, post-accident, post-incident or reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing per University of Colorado and/or ARTS policies.

Substitution for Professional Experience:

  • Successfully completed course work from an accredited college or university that is appropriate to the position may substitute on a yearforyear basis for the required experience

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university that is appropriate to the position may substitute for the required professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience with medication assisted treatment

  • Prior work experience with patients in substance use disorder treatment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, written communication skills, which includes the ability to check for typographical, grammatical and spelling errors.

  • Effectively manage difficult behaviors.

  • Engage patients in treatment for substance use disorder treatment.

  • Comply with established rules, policies and procedures and meet deadlines.

  • Be open-minded and nonjudgmental, and develop healthy relationships with clients.

  • Establish professional boundaries with clients.

  • Exercise discretion and respect privacy, and enforce patient confidentiality.

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a Medication Dispensing LPN (Health Care Technician III) for a 9-month temporary contract employee position within the Addiction Research and Treatment Services (ARTS) Adult Outpatient Program, with clinic locations in Denver, Aurora and Arvada. The ARTS Adult Outpatient Program is within the School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. ARTS Adult Outpatient clinics provide drug and alcohol assessment, psychosocial and pharmacological treatment for adults. Programs in various clinic locations include traditional outpatient, intensive outpatient and may contain specialty services for clients referred by the criminal justice system, county departments of human services, and services for pregnant women, individuals who are HIV positive or gender responsive services.
