The University of Colorado encourages applications for the Assistant Director of the Spirit Squad! This position is responsible for assisting the Director in the planning, promotion and administration of the intercollegiate athletics Spirit Squad Program. This position will assist in day-to-day administrative operations of the entire Colorado Spirit Squad program, which includes the cheerleading team, dance team and CHIP the mascot.

This position will help the Director provide a vision and direction for the program, establish goals and take an active role in managing coaches and athletes, to ensure the program is in line with the CU Athletic Department's Mission. This position will help manage administrative aspects of the Spirit Squad: fundraising, budget allocation, scheduling, community service, travel, uniform and equipment needs, appearances and outreach activities (department, University, community and private events), tryouts, health & academic requirements of squad, leadership programs, team discipline, and manage current social media for Spirit Squad.

The Assistant Director will assist with special events and other duties as assigned by the Spirit Director. This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. This shall include adhering to the principles of the Athletic Department's Mission Statement, Diversity and Inclusion Mission Statement, Core Values, Policies and Procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Assist in collaboration with cheer, dance and mascot staff;

  • Regularly attend cheer and dance practices;

  • Attend some CU Athletic events where spirit squad is present;

  • Assist in competition needs of the team including costumes, props, music, registration and preparation;

  • Meet with Spirit Squad members on any issues that might arise that are non-coaching related;

  • Work with Spirit Director on coordinating practices, participation and performances at home Football, Men's and Women's basketball, Volleyball, Soccer games and other events as requested;

  • Must be able to work on weekends and evenings and possible travel with Spirit Squad to away athletic events;

  • Help increase exposure for CU Athletics and the Spirit Squad Program through special appearances on campus and in the community.

Fundraising:

  • Assist in fundraising for the Spirit Programs operational budget and any national appearances;

  • Cultivate, recruit, and ask former cheer, dance & mascot alumni groups in fundraising efforts/campaigns;

  • Assist in developing and managing all aspects of the Jr. Buffs Spirit Program;

  • Work on developing and assisting in all aspects of cheer and dance camps.

Oversee Scheduling and Planning:

  • Help coordinate all Spirit Squad activities relating to tryouts, public appearances, athletic and special events, promotional and social events;

  • Assist in scheduling logistics relating to UCA and UDA nationals;

  • Serve as the internal contact for CU Spirit Squad to Athletics Department staff and the campus community in all matters relating to squad logistics;

  • Manage social media team to update posts in timely manner.

Gameday Planning:

  • Work with Spirit Director on Football rotation and performance schedule;

  • Be present at all home games as a liaison for every Spirit team;

  • Assist in Gameday planning with Director and Skill staff;

  • Ensure safety and student welfare.

What We Can Offer

  • The annual salary range for this position is $53,000-$56,000.

What We Require

  • Experience operating a studio or supervising cheer, dance or mascot program with at least 1 years of coaching experience and/or marketing and/or public relations background.

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

What You Will Need

  • Knowledge of one or both dance and cheer associations guidelines (Universal Dance Association, National Dance Alliance, and/or United Spirit Association, USA Cheer or Universal Cheerleaders Association);

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, judgment, initiative and attention to detail;

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills;

  • Ability to organize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, plan schedules and coordinate events;

  • Ability to work independently or as a team member, who will forge strong working relationships with professional colleagues, donors, team members, administration and other external constituents;

  • Creative, high energy level and astute at generating and implementing new ideas;

  • Ability to use social media networks, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter;

  • Strong public speaking skills;

  • Computer skills.

CU Athletics is looking for 2, 9-month contract workers to help support, instruct and coach the CU Dance Team. These positions will report to the Spirit Director.

The dance positions will be responsible for rotating practices along with Spirit Director and Asst. Director. They must be able to attend weekly staff meetings to discuss goals for practices/games for the week/month. They will focus on skill and technique wherever we see fit for our team goals. They will be required to rotate Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Mens and Womens Basketball games but will not be required to be at all. They will be required to attend Nationals practices along with UDA College Nationals in January.

CU Athletics is looking for 2, 9-month contract workers to help support, instruct and coach the CU Cheer Team. These positions will report to the Spirit Director.

They will either be skilled in Coed training, All Girl training, tumbling specific or all three. They must be able to attend weekly staff meetings to discuss goals for practices/games for the week/month. They will focus on skill and technique wherever we see fit for our team goals. They will be required to rotate Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Mens, and Womens Basketball games but will not be required to be at all. They will be required to attend Nationals practices along with UCA College Nationals in January.
