The Copley Lab at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Post-Doctoral Researcher! This position will carry out experiments sought at understanding the recruitment of promiscuous enzymes to serve new functions and how the different genome contents of different bacteria affect the evolutionary potential of promiscuous enzymes. The work will be carried out in the Copley lab in the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Genomic editing of bacteria to probe the levels of enzymes that are required for growth
Identification of the mechanisms by which growth can be restored in bacteria in which essential genes have been deleted
Determination of whether gene amplification occurs in different bacteria in which a promiscuous enzyme has been recruited to serve an essential function
Maintaining an electronic notebook describing experimental protocols and results
Participating in weekly meetings with the PI and other personnel working on the same project to share data and results
Preparation of manuscripts for publication
Mentoring of graduate students and undergraduate students in the laboratory
Presentation of experimental results in group meetings and at scientific meetings
What You Should Know
This position will be rostered in CIRES at CU Boulder but will be physically situated in the David Skaggs Research Center, 325 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80305. If you are the selected finalist you will be required to pass a federal laboratory background clearance for site access.

What We Require
Ph.D. in Microbiology
Previous laboratory experience in experimental evolution, cloning, and growth and genetic manipulation of diverse bacteria.
