Job Summary

The University Memorial Center welcomes applications for a Custodian I. This position is responsible for maintaining and cleaning all public areas, entryways, and stairways. This includes sweeping and mopping hard surface floors, vacuuming carpets, emptying waste receptacles, dusting counters and shelves etc., washing windows and other glass surfaces as needed.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Daily Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Maintain and clean all public areas, entryways, and stairways. This includes sweeping and mopping hard surface floors, vacuuming carpets, emptying waste receptacles, dusting counters and shelves etc., washing windows and other glass surfaces as needed.

  • Daily cleaning of various restrooms throughout the UMC. This includes the cleaning and sanitizing of restroom fixtures, sweeping and wet mopping floors, cleaning mirrors, restocking the various dispensers with the appropriate products, and emptying waste receptacles, and when necessary cleaning restroom walls and stalls.

  • Clean and maintain offices throughout the UMC. This includes dust mopping and wet mopping floors or vacuuming where appropriate, emptying waste receptacles, dusting and cleaning office furniture and walls when necessary.

Semi Annual Projects

  • Semi-annual strip, seal, and rewax all hard surface floors and shampoo or bonnet buff carpets.

  • Assist with a variety of cleaning and maintenance projects during the Winter and Fall breaks in the academic schedule. This includes the cleaning and washing of windows, walls, light fixtures and furniture throughout the UMC.

Snow Removal

  • Provide snow removal on the sidewalks and access ramps located around the UMC to ensure safe access in and out of the UMC.

Setup Team Support

  • Provide support to Setup Team in the various meeting rooms and event spaces, when needed.

  • Assist and support the Setup Team with the moving of office furniture or other heavy pieces of furniture or equipment, when needed.

What You Should Know

  • This position will work Wednesday through Sunday, 4:00 am - 12:30 pm.
