Job Summary
The Office of Strategic Relations and Communications at CU Boulder encourages applications for the Director of Executive Communications. This position provides oversight for executive communications on the Boulder campus in support of the University Communications strategic plans. This includes developing and executing executive communications plans, writing speeches, op-eds and other executive communications for the chancellor and chief operating office or his/her designees, collaborating with News Services on executive-level news releases and media relations, Development and Alumni Relations, and managing special projects as assigned.

Strategic Relations and Communications facilitates an integrated approach to campus wide marketing and communications to inspire greater CU Boulder engagement, affinity and support.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
The director is responsible for:
Developing and strategic executing executive communications plans for the chancellor and COO.
Researching and writing speeches for the chancellor and selected university administrators as required.
Providing media relations counsel at the executive level, in conjunction with the associate vice-chancellor for strategic communications and the university spokesperson.
Providing support for the associate vice-chancellor on issues management, including researching sophisticated and sensitive topics, drafting statements and fact sheets for public and internal distribution, and conducting environmental scans for potential issues. Developing press releases relative to executive level issues, in conjunction with News Services.
Writing and editing the chancellor's and COO editorials, newsletters and stories for both internal publications and public audiences.
Preparing special reports, presentations, white papers, position papers and related collateral materials that support Chancellor and executive leadership issues, programs and activities.
Ongoing duties planned and implemented by the director include:
Attending regularly scheduled meetings of University Communications.
Serving as a member of University Communications' Action Team (UCAT) during emergencies and crises.
Managing special promotional projects.
Attending/recording and managing transcriptions of chancellor speaking engagements whenever feasible.

The hiring pay range for this position is $97,000 - $130,000, relocation is available.

What We Require
Three years of experience in journalism, communications, speech writing, public relations or related work.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
What You Will Need
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Strategic thinking skills.
Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills.
Ability to be collaborative and adaptable.
The ability to research, interview, and capture information.
What We Would Like You To Have
10 years of experience in journalism, communications, speech writing, public relations or related work.
Journalism experience.
Master's degree.
