Full-Time Non-Tenure Track Faculty in Renewable & Sustainable Energy
The Masters of the Environment (MENV) graduate program, within the University of Colorado Boulder’s Environmental Studies Program, seeks a full-time non-tenure-track faculty for the Renewable and Sustainable Energy track.
The successful candidate will possess significant academic as well as professional experience in renewable and sustainable energy. The candidate will have a nuanced, systems-oriented understanding of the opportunities, risks, and trade-offs associated with energy choices, production, and distribution. MENV is especially interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following intersections: (i) energy policy; (ii) energy justice or transitions; (iii) energy technologies; (iv) data science and quantitative analysis; or (v) energy consulting or financing. We are especially interested in candidates who have academic or professional experience related to resilience, social change, diversity and inclusiveness and the energy arena.
Candidates with significant experience in professional activity and research or creative work, a record of teaching, and a passion for student mentoring are encouraged to apply. MENV is an innovative, transdisciplinary graduate degree program that sits within CU Boulder’s Environmental Studies Program, and is distinct from thesis-based graduate programs in its focus on preparing students for professional environmental and sustainability careers in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. The program is cohort-based, accelerated, and intensive, including both demanding coursework and a year-long group capstone project with an external partner organization. In addition to a core curriculum focused on leadership, systems thinking, and environmental science, students in the program must choose a subject-matter specialization track. These include environmental and natural resources policy, urban resilience and sustainability, renewable and sustainable energy, sustainability in the outdoor industry, and sustainable food systems.

Environmental Studies Program: ENVS at CU-Boulder is a hub for facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration in environment and sustainability. The program nurtures interdisciplinary academic training for undergraduate and graduate students, provides guidance for students with career aspirations in environment and sustainability venues, promotes diverse professional education experiences, fosters fundamental and applied research, forms meaningful connections with communities beyond the university, and integrates innovative, interdisciplinary programs unified by the themes of environmental research. ENVS offers both research-based and professional graduate programs.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
This position is comprised of a nine-month academic year non-tenure track appointment, and includes a summer appointment. The position includes a mix of the following four primary responsibilities:
Teaching. The candidate will teach both in-person, as well as online professional graduate courses;
Serving as the faculty lead for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Specialization. This will include overseeing the curriculum and RSE faculty, as well as advising students.
Serving as an MENV Capstone Advisor. The faculty member will advise MENV students in capstone projects (akin to externships).
This position may also include: Engaging in research or creative work related to professional practice. This involves a) demonstrating impact and innovation within professional practice, including developing and facilitating relationships with, and serving as a resource to, external organizations; and b) engaging in research and thought leadership in the renewable and sustainable energy sector.

What We Require
A PhD, a Master’s Degree, or other terminal degree.
All applicants should have an academic and professional background with an emphasis on energy systems, renewable and sustainable energy, or a related discipline.
Candidates must also have at least a year of experience in teaching or curriculum delivery in higher education or for a professional audience.
Candidates will have at least two years of significant relevant professional experience through innovative professional practice directly related to one or more of the five intersections identified above.

Ability to contribute toward program efforts to address dimensions of underserved communities, justice and equity, and race, gender, and/or class influence as it relates to the renewable and sustainable energy sector.
Personal qualities should include a spirit of collaboration, a passion for learning and the requisite humility that is required when working in an emergent field with creative, professional students.
Strong interpersonal skills and self-directedness are a must for this team-based program with a startup mindset.
What We Would Like You To Have
Preferred qualifications include two or more years of higher education teaching experience and/or five years or more professional experience directly related to one or more of the five intersections identified above.
Evidence of engaging diverse communities and creating strong partnerships.
Experience in creating innovative learning experiences.
Demonstrated experience of teaching, developing curriculum for professional or higher education learning, extension, and/or facilitation and technical assistance.
Demonstration of a passion for student mentoring.
