Job Summary

Recreation Services welcomes applications for a Team Sports Coordinator! This professional exempt, full-time position is responsible for assisting the Senior Assistant Director and Assistant Director of Team Sports in managing and operating the Sports Club and Intramural Program in the Department of Recreation Services at the University of Colorado Boulder. General duties include overseeing the daily operations of this large and complex team sports program.

This position has oversight of student supervisors, officials, coaches, schedules, practice times, fields, facilities, equipment and risk management. This position will manage all facets of multiple sports clubs and multiple intramural sports throughout the year. Though this position will work with both sports clubs and intramural sports, it will have a heavier intramural sport workload.

This position works evenings and weekends to provide a safe environment for participating students, employees and spectators. The normal working hours during the academic year will be an early afternoon to evening, including weekends. Hours will shift over the summer depending on the activities happening from week to week.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Team Sports Administration

  • Assist in the development, supervision, promotion, and administration of the team sports programs (sport clubs and intramurals).

  • Assist with officials training in multiple sports, fiduciary responsibilities (income and expenses), travel, student-athlete eligibility and assisting clubs with fundraising opportunities.

  • Participate in league scheduling; respond to email inquiries, and facilitate disciplinary challenges; confirm changes in any scheduling or event management; keep the facility side of the operation informed of daily needs as it relates to fields or facilities, and place work orders and make purchases as needed.

  • Directly manage and oversee multiple sports clubs including preparation and administration of budgets, assist in interviews, hiring, training, and scheduling of student staff.

  • Assist with the management of special events at large sporting venues in the greater Denver area.

  • Act as liaison between all clubs and the Senior and Assistant Director of Team Sports.

Field/Facility/Event/Equipment Management

  • Oversee the organization and maintenance of team sports equipment, supplies, and fields.

  • Assist with field/facility requests, scheduling, the unforeseen need for adjustments and appropriate coverage for games, competitions, and practices.

  • Assist with equipment inventory.

  • Ensure field and facility standards.

  • Make adjustments when possible regarding unforeseen needs for competitions and practices.

Risk Management

  • Manage associated risks with all team sports programs, practices, events and competitions to include: staff training, meeting competition requirements, following best practices for athlete and facility safety, etc.

Summer Administration

  • During the month of June, this position will assist other recreation services areas as needed.

  • This could range from facility maintenance, event management, and/or assisting on the challenge course.

Assessment

  • Assist in the development, execution, and evaluation of the team sports program.

  • Ensures best practices are currently resulting in a quality and safe environment aligning with university policies and procedures.

Recreation Program and Facilities Quality Control

  • Participate in the development of ideas and suggestions for program and facility improvement.

  • Attend Recreation Center classes or programs and use various facilities and equipment periodically for quality control.

What You Should Know

  • This position will have an afternoon and evening schedule including a weekend day during the school year.

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends.

What We Can Offer

Anticipated Starting Salary is $40,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Sport and Recreation Management, Business, or a related field.

  • 1-2 year's of professional experience in intramurals and/or sports clubs (Graduate Assistant student experience accepted).

  • The equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

  • Experience supervising and/or leading students and/or part-time employees.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.

  • Ability to pass Commercial Motor Vehicle Certification and related physical.

What You Will Need

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in officiating various sports, including basketball, soccer and flag football.

  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate programs.

  • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within three months of employment.

  • The incumbent must work well independently and in a staff environment.

  • Able to handle ambiguous situations confidently while adhering to university policy.

  • Able to demonstrate initiative, integrity, transparency and strong organizational/leadership skills.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Progress toward a Master's degree or a Masters Degree in Exercise Science, Sport and Recreation Management, or a related field.

  • One to two years of professional experience leading intramurals or club sports.

  • One to two years of experience making purchases and reconciling accounts.

  • Experience supervising and training student officials.

  • Officiating experience in an organized or recreational sports setting.

  • Experience working in collegiate recreation facilities and programs.
