Salary/Pay Range : $ 50,000 annually. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.

Summary

The non-tenure track instructor will be expected to teach in-person courses in the TCID department beginning fall 2024. The teaching load for the academic year is twenty-four credits, or eight three-credit courses; the IRC faculty member will teach a 4/4 load. Course sizes range from 15-20 students. Course format is primarily in-person, while hyflex and hybrid courses may be required, as necessary; this instructor will be able to integrate computer and other educational technologies effectively into the instructional process. Courses taught may fall between 8am and 8pm Monday-Friday.

The IRC faculty member will teach TCID 2080 (Business & Administrative Writing) and/or TCID 2090 (Technical Writing and Presentation) and may be responsible for developing and teaching additional courses to support department goals.

In addition to teaching TCID 2080 and/or TCID 2090, the position may be responsible for teaching topics such as TCID fundamentals, UX, editing, design, cross-cultural communication, and others as necessary. Experience designing and incorporating service-learning opportunities into courses is desired; additionally, industry experience in technical communications is helpful to the role.

All faculty are required to attend monthly professional development workshops during the academic year. IRC faculty will also perform duties expected of full-time faculty (including maintaining office hours, holding conferences with students, providing students with timely feedback, creating a learning environment that fosters student success, and, more generally, remaining abreast of best practices and scholarship in professional and technical writing). This instructor should possess the ability to work effectively with students of various ages and of diverse competencies and cultural backgrounds. They will contribute to a collegial and collaborative work environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Education: A master's degree in technical communication (or related field)

  • Experience: Graduate coursework in professional and/or technical communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of successful in-person teaching in technical communication, professional communication, and related courses.

  • Evidence of successful teaching with computers and other technologies.

  • Graduate training in the teaching of professional and technical communication.

  • Applicants with experience designing and incorporating service-learning opportunities are preferred, as are those with industry experience in technical communication.
