The Disability Resources & Services Office has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Accommodation Coordinator position.

The Accommodation Coordinator will develop, coordinate, and implement reasonable instructional accommodations to allow students with disabilities full participation in the programs offered by the university. These accommodations include but will not be limited to: notetaking services (60-80/year) and alternative testing (approx. 2300/year). This position will be responsible for implementing these accommodations in multiple learning environments such as physical campuses, virtual campuses (on-line), and any co-curricular sites, i.e. internships, externships, student teaching, etc. The Accommodation Coordinator will work independently with faculty, staff, and/or students to resolve accommodation-related issues. These issues include but are not limited to:

  • Responding to academic integrity violations

  • Mediating between faculty/staff and students regarding accommodations

  • Mediating and addressing conflict with faculty/staff and students regarding accommodation implementation

  • Assess and refer at risk students to the appropriate mental health supports

  • Mediate between student and note-taker when/if note-taker is not providing notes and/or providing inadequate notes; replace note-taker when warranted; and mediate between faculty and student when faculty has a practice of no recording in the classroom

  • Determine meaningful solutions in order to maintain approved student accommodations

To implement the management of all accommodation-related operations, this position will select and supervise approximately 10 student employees per semester, who serve as testing assistants or proctors. This position will support and implement the vision, mission, and values of Disability Resources & Services. The Accommodation Coordinator must be able to maintain a working knowledge of accommodations as well as all current University policies that are relevant to the academic experience of the student.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring range for this position has been established at $33,804 to $46,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

*Minimum Qualifications: *

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, communication, social science, public administration, arts/media, or a directly related field from an accredited institution,

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience coordinating accommodation services in secondary and/or post-secondary student services environment

  • Experience with accommodation and case management software

  • Experience using web-based information systems (i.e. PeopleSoft or similar)

Competencies:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

  • Knowledge of Excel, Access, File maker databases

  • Ability to work with and relate to students from diverse backgrounds

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work independently

  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality

  • Ability to maintain a working knowledge of institutional policy and train others according to that policy
