The Office of Advancement has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Assistant Director of Annual Giving position.

This role is crucial to building a campus culture of philanthropy at CU Denver and to expanding the pipeline of major gift donors and prospects. The Assistant Director of Annual Giving builds a pipeline of gifts between $1-24,999 while serving as a point of entry for schools, colleges, and units to the resources available in the Office of Advancement. This role will coordinate and help shape the strategies around annual giving solicitations, including the selection of appropriate channels, target populations and messaging.
Manages a portfolio of donors and prospects giving between $1,000 and $24,999 with a focus on renewing and upgrading annual gifts and identifying major gift prospects
Serves as an Office of Advancement consultant and partner for CU Denver Schools, Colleges, and other units for annual giving activity, serving as a project manager to shepherd appeals from conception to completion and offering resources, toolkits, and referrals as needed
Refers potential major gift prospects to Directors of Development, collaborating on strategies to successfully cultivate relationships toward gifts of $25,000
Exercises expertise and collaboration with units to determine best channel(s) to meet philanthropic revenue goals for appeals, including crowdfunding, email, direct mail, telephone, and combination channels
Partners with donor relations and advancement communications to create and implement stewardship and engagement plans for annual giving donors, including events, written communications, and other recognition
Co-manages annual giving budget with the Senior Director for Philanthropic and Partner Relations
Creates CU Denver annual giving appeal calendar in conjunction with CU’s central annual giving team
Collaborates with major gift officers, alumni and donor relations, and advancement communications to provide strategic direction to Schools, Colleges, Departments, and other units around annual giving
Manages annual faculty and staff giving initiatives, including working closely with the faculty and staff campaign steering committee
Retrieves, analyzes, and tracks appeal data to determine best channel(s) for meeting philanthropic goals and managing costs
Assembles content and copy for annual giving appeals and works with advancement communications for review, approval, and calendar coordination
Regularly reports on appeal performance

Salary and Benefits:
The hiring range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
1-3 years of professional experience in fundraising, sales, communications, or a related field.
Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
Conditions of Employment:
3 or more years of professional experience in fundraising, sales, communications, or a related field.
2-3 years of experience in leadership annual giving, alumni, community, or external relations.
Experience with copywriting and editing.
Project management experience.
Experience with face-to-face visits and personal solicitations.
Experience with stewardship and/or cultivation.
Experience with engagement metrics, including analysis.
Experience working in higher education environment.
Strong fundraising skills, particularly related to cold calling, leading effective one-on-one visits, and utilizing multiple modes of communication to achieve results.
Strong ability to think critically and take initiative.
Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
Outstanding customer service skills.
Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
Demonstrated ability to make thoughtful decisions while identifying needs of donors.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to be both proactive and responsive in a metrics driven environment.
