The Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in optimization, to start August 2019. The minimum qualification is a Ph.D. in the mathematical sciences or a related field. The successful candidate should have research and teaching interests in optimization, demonstrated potential for excellence in research, and a strong commitment to quality teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated potential for attracting external research funding.

The Denver campus, which houses the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, is home to a diverse community of 15,000 students. The department has 29 full-time faculty, including 18 tenured or tenure-track faculty members, whose research and teaching cover a wide range of areas, including optimization, probability, statistics, computational mathematics, graph theory, and mathematics education. The Department has approximately 70 M.S. and Ph.D. students, and over 200 undergraduate mathematics majors.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong independent research program, supervise graduate and undergraduate student research, teach courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level, and provide service to the department, university and the profession. The regular teaching load is 2 courses per semester, which may be reduced for an initial period.
