Lecturer

This post serves to establish a pool of applicants for the position of Lecturer at The Writing Center at CU Denver. The Writing Center employs part-time, non-tenure track Lecturers (with a Bachelor's/Master's/Doctoral degree) from a variety of disciplines and fields in the paid position of Professional Writing Consultant.

Job Duties:

  • ·Work with students in the Writing Center in one-on-one or small-group sessions on issues including (but not limited to)

o Understanding assignment expectations

o Generating, organizing, and developing ideas

o Analyzing, synthesizing, and arguing

o Summarizing, paraphrasing, and documenting sources

o Effectively recognizing and revising issues with grammar and syntax

  • · Develop and deliver presentations/workshops in a variety of contexts and settings, including in-Center, in the Auraria Library, and in classrooms

  • · Work a set schedule (same days/hours) each week for the duration of each semester; schedules are negotiated each semester around classes, teaching assignments, and other employment

  • · Commit to a semester-long appointment of 5, 10, 15, or 20 hours/week

  • · Attend both pre-semester Orientation and monthly Professional Development & Education meetings; complete professional certifications as required by the Writing Center

Compensation:

Lecturersare paid a set salary for the semester. Starting pay ranges from $1,000 - $9,000 and depends on education, experience, and hours worked/week. Starting salaries are discussed during interviews.*

· A Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field

o Degrees in other fields may be considered depending on additional qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

Well-qualified candidates are experienced writers with relevant or related experience in collaborative workshopping, tutoring, teaching, and/or academic coaching. Knowledge of or experience with writing in different genres/disciplines and for differing audiences and expectations is preferred but not required. Preferred qualifications include

· A Master’s or Doctoral degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, Education, or a related field

o Other advanced and/or terminal degrees in other fields may be considered depending on additional qualifications

· One or more years working in a writing center, learning resource center, or other academic coaching environment.
