The Marketing/Communications Business Manager will report to the Director of Technology Support Services in the Office of Information Technology and will be responsible for planning, development and implementation of all CU Productions marketing strategies, marketing communications and public relations activities, both internal and external in collaboration with the CU Productions Production Manager. This individual will manage client-facing relationships, and oversee the development and implementation of support materials and services for areas of marketing, communications and public relations and coordinate the strategic and tactical levels with the other functions of the organization.

Position Summary:

This position’s primary responsibility is to build and maintain strong client relationships based on trust and respect by ensuring that media services are being delivered with a high-degree of professionalism and customer satisfaction. It will be necessary to foster strong relationships with prospective university clients and partners, and create new business opportunities and drive sustainable growth via the promotion of CU Productions. This will be achieved through a combination of internally sourced leads and business development. This position will also be responsible for fulfilling business activities such as estimates, invoicing, and payment tracking and generating monthly financial reports

The selected candidate should have an understanding of the media production process and a passion and ability to establish and grow strong relationships, have a demonstrated strength in delivering superior customer service, and must be a determined leader capable of motivating a team to meet business objectives in a high paced environment. This position will be expected to work cross-functionally with the IT Department, CU Anschutz Communications staff, as well as video production and marketing staff to deliver professional, savvy video and digital content that helps share the stories of the campus.

Principle Accountabilities

Marketing, communications and public relations:

  1. Responsible for creating, implementing and measuring the success of a comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations program that will enhance the organizational image and position within the dual campus marketplace and the general public, as well as organization of communications; and public relation activities and materials including publications, media relations, client acquisition, and business development.

  2. Ensures articulation of the organization’s desired image and position, assures consistent communications of image and position throughout and to all constituents, both internal and external.

  3. Coordinates the appearance of all organizational print and electronic materials such as letterhead, use of logos, brochures, websites, etc.

  4. Meets regularly with the University Office of Public Relations/Communications to coordinate communications with the media, and ensures regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests;

  5. Ensures that the organization regularly conducts relevant market research and coordinates this activity and monitors trends.

  6. Leads projects as assigned such as special events.

  7. Creates and manages a consistent pipeline of qualified opportunities.

  8. Builds and maintains strong business relationships with UC Denver| Anschutz Medical Campus schools, centers, departments, administrative units, affiliates, and external clients based on trust and respect.

Planning and budgeting

  1. Responsible for the achievement of marketing/communications/public relations mission, goals and financial objectives. Ensures that evaluation systems are in place related to these goals and objectives and reports progress to the Director.

  2. Develops short and long-term plans and budgets for the Production Team in collaboration with the Production Manager. Monitors progress, assures adherence and evaluates performance.

  3. Manages CU Production’s fee-for-service revenue streams, provides timely estimates, invoicing, tracks payments and generates monthly financial reports.

  4. Develop new and implements existing administrative and operational policies and procedures and evaluate their relevance, efficiency and effectiveness.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Promote media production and related services to internal university clients and external clients.

  • Conduct and manage outreach campaigns such as quarterly newsletters and university sponsored events.

  • Create and manage a consistent pipeline of qualified opportunities.

  • Build and maintain strong business relationships with UC Denver|Anschutz Medical Campus schools, centers, departments, administrative units, affiliates, and external clients based on trust and respect.

  • Develop a clear understanding of business partner’s media needs and overall organizational strategy to best accommodate their objectives. Will create, manage and market new service lines including radio and broadcast satellite services to communications clients on campus and media outlets

  • Serve as a first point of contact for the ‘day-to-day’ support and escalation of service issues. Oversee all scheduling and assigned duties for production teams, manage all production calendars in close collaboration with staff and clients, hire and oversee freelance crews as needed

  • Manage customers’ expectations via consistent and timely communications. Propose new ideas to staff and clients on how to use a studio and production talent to create compelling, high production viral videos

  • Develop new, and implement existing administrative and operational policies and procedures and evaluate their relevance, efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Support business and administrative tasks as needed and assigned. Oversee and manage contracts and timesheets for full time production staff and freelance personnel, legal releases and more

  • Assist with the production of live events through live streams and real-time captures; counsel clients on campus about relevance and trending tools

  • Provide timely and consistent communication between clients and internal team

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation form an accredited College or University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications.

  • 2-4 years of experience working in a marketing or communications.

  • Ability to manage a customer-facing role in a creative agency environment with a video service line. Exceptional portfolio of video projects exhibiting a mastery of skills from concept to completion

  • Advanced knowledge of video pre-production, production and post-production, including workflows and processes, equipment and software programs/tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited College or University with a master’s degree in marketing or communications.

  • Established reputation in marketing and communications, and established relationships with news media (i.e., local and national broadcasts communications organizations, NPR, etc., and educational programs such as National Geographic, etc.)
