Job Summary:

The Enterprise Applications and Services (EAS) Product Owner, a full-time university staff (non-classified) position, (PO) will be responsible for working with key university audiences (staff, faculty, students, community) in order to identify, specify, prioritize and validate extended capabilities of the university’s Content Management System (CMS), Sitefinity. Additionally, the PO is responsible for communicating that understanding to the CMS user community and to the implementation and development teams. The PO will need to develop a deep understanding of the university, users and the associated opportunities.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Facilitate the conversation and negotiations between internal university clients and the CMS Transition Team (Office of Information Technology-OIT Web Services and University Communications-UComm) in order to discover, understand and define stakeholder needs
  1. Clarify the need

  2. Determine if the need is worth satisfying

  3. Prioritize the need

  4. Determine the best solution to satisfy it

  5. Create and elaborate on specifications, write user stories and create supporting artifacts

  6. Validate the need was satisfied

  • Partner with the Program Manager in communicating the program/product vision and making sure it's understood

  • Participate in backlog refinement, grooming and prioritization Contribute to iteration planning meetings to determine release and sprint capacity, estimation, and velocity

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at $65,000 - $75,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Training

  • Completion of four years of college with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college with major emphasis in Business, Communications, Marketing, Information Systems or a closely related field.


  • 3 years as a Product Owner, Product Manager and/or Business Analyst, User Experience/Information Architect with a professional software development organization

  • Substitution Professional product owner, product management or business analysis experience with enterprise-level software may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be willing and able to travel between campuses (Denver Campus and Anschutz Medical Campus)

Preferred Requirements:

  • Knowledgeable in User Experience and Information Architecture principles

  • Experience working with an enterprise-level Content Management System. Sitefinity experience a significant plus.

  • Experience with device-agnostic design (user first, responsive, adaptive, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be approachable, respectful and well-rounded. Ability to work closely with others in an Agile environment (SCRUM)

  • Strong elicitation and facilitation techniques

  • Analytical skills to ask the right questions, dissect, organize, translate and cross-reference requirements

  • Experience in various prioritization methods resulting in an effective and groomed backlog

  • Feature-based roadmap and product planning

  • Work with all audiences to develop effective user stories

  • Create clearly defined acceptance criteria per feature

  • Able to deliver capabilities that add measurable value

  • A strong sense of design thinking and best practices and a passion for delivering simple and effective solutions

  • Good teamwork and excellent communication and presentation skills, especially client facing are essential

  • Self-starter and ability to work independently or on a team

  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills

  • Promote continuous improvement philosophy

  • Work with ScrumMaster to identify and resolve impediments

  • Work with IA/UX and UI to facilitate usability testing, gather user feedback and feed product lifecycle

  • Conduct market research supported by the relationships you develop with audience members. Spend time with students, staff, faculty and community to understand their problems to find innovative solutions

  • Evaluate data and insights for comprehensive strategy planning
