The Office of Information Technology is accepting applications for a 1 year full-time university (non-classified) position.

*Position Summary: *

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) Student Journey Senior Project Manager (SJPM) will provide oversite and direction for the University of Colorado Denver Student Journey Web Experience (SJWE) project. This role works closely with the OIT Manager of Web Services, OIT Delivery Manager, the Student Access and Achievement Director of Digital Strategies University, Communications Assistant Vice Chancellor and an external agency partner. There will be a particular emphasis on bridging all stakeholder units, establishing project tasks/dependencies/deadlines, allocating resources, identifying risks, gathering requirements, holding review meetings and providing status updates. A key objective of this role is in defining and driving to a minimum viable product for the initial launch of the student journey and top-level website properties at This is a one-year temporary position with the potential for permanent placement. This position calls for an individual with very strong organizational, communication, relationship-building, facilitation, negotiation and problem-solving skills. A successful candidate will have a sense of humor, positive attitude, love for the Internet and technology. She or he should have a hunger to acquire a breadth of knowledge regarding student success and the digital student lifecycle in addition to managing the flow of the project.

*Examples of Work Performed: *

This position will be responsible for managing the SJWE project utilizing agreed upon tools and following industry-standard methodologies for establishing schedules, resource pools, time management, deliverables, milestones, critical paths, etc. Candidate must regularly communicate project status to technical and non-technical audiences at all levels of the organization.

  • Brings together all student journey website stakeholders as necessary. Responsible for on-going communications with stakeholders

  • Provides status reports to executive project sponsor and leadership team

  • In collaboration with OIT Delivery Manager, provides guidance and clarity for external partner. Ensures external partner provides the following:

o accurately scoped efforts (time, budget and deliverables)

o project plan including dependencies and timeline

o clearly documents and receives signoff on deliverables

o agreed upon acceptance criteria

o communication plan

o roles and responsibilities

o delivery on all commitments.

  • Creates, drives and communicates project plan, schedule and project budget

  • Assigns and tracks tasks and deadlines of internal stakeholders and support teams

  • Escalates challenges and clears roadblocks when necessary

  • Assesses and evaluates project success

  • Monitors and drives content planning and implementation with content leads

  • Ensures stakeholders are delivering needed content, reviewing content in a timely manner

  • Creates development timeline for new content

  • Responsible for creating a trackable method for determining status of content (what has been created, what needs to be moved, what content is missing)

  • Works with OIT Delivery Manager to monitor and drive website feature build planning and implementation

  • Works with OIT Manager of Web Services, OIT Delivery Manager, the Student Access and Achievement Director of Digital Strategies and University Communications Assistant Vice Chancellor, in addition other identified stakeholders, to monitor and drive website buildout and launch planning and implementation

*Salary and Benefits: *

The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $98,773 and is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a computer, business, technical or related field and 3 years’ experience managing website and/or web application projects in a higher education, corporate, or ecommerce environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 3 - 5 years’ experience managing complex website and/or web application projects with large numbers of stakeholders

  • 3-5 years’ experience Leadership supporting a formal, documented project management methodology including establishing project processes, procedures, governance and performance standards.

Substitution: 4 years of professional or high-level technical experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree.



Preferred Requirements:

  • Professional project management certification. (PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM, PSM)

  • Experience with MS Project Server.

  • Understanding of website and web application development technologies and process.

  • 5 - 7 years’ experience managing complex website and/or web application projects with large numbers of stakeholders.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, tactfulness, customer-service ethic and follow-through are a must.

  • Strong English written/verbal communication.

  • Ability to work in a close team effort where ongoing collaboration among team members and various interconnecting projects is a must.

  • Must be comfortable making decisions independently as well as within a team framework.

  • Must be a confident self-starter who possesses tenacity, curiosity, and a penchant for detail.

  • A passion for learning the latest web technologies.

  • Expert at recognizing and solving problems quickly.

  • Thorough understanding of project management methodologies and best practices on establishing project charters, schedules, constraints, risks, resources and stakeholders’ responsibilities.

  • Meticulous about managing the details of every project and the impact each detail may have on the overall project success.

  • Proficient in managing large-scale project plans and time management

  • Able to assist project sponsor with developing project charter assuring a shared understanding of scope, resources, objectives, risks and measures of success.

  • Able to create and manage clear documentation of project details (scope document, estimate, creative brief, change orders, revision notices, review phases and client approvals).

  • Able to constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders including deliverables, staffing, schedules, budgets, risks and change requests.

  • Proficient in facilitating and leading project meetings with prepared agendas, clearly stated goals and objectives and processes for tracking decisions, issues and action items.
