The Political Science Department at the University of Colorado Denver invites applications from innovative and versatile teachers to fill a two-year visiting Assistant Professor position, starting August 2019. Depending on the individual’s performance and college resource availability, longer-term renewals of this position are possible.

Applicants should have areas of expertise in Political Theory, with specialization in Race, Ethnicity, Inequality and/or Social Justice. Preferred subfields: Black political thought, Indigenous political thought, Latinx political thought, or non-western/comparative political thought.

The successful candidate will be rostered as a visiting assistant professor. This position comes with responsibilities in teaching (60% of time), research (30% of time), and service (10% of time). The teaching load is 3/3 (six courses an academic year), at both the undergraduate and graduate level. This position will be responsible for teaching basic survey courses in political theory as well as courses within the candidate’s particular subfield.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



Ph.D. from an accredited university; track record of engaging and innovative teaching; record of scholarly achievement or promise of future scholarly achievement; areas of expertise in the field of Political Theory, and critical approach to such issues as race, ethnicity and inequality.

The Political Science Department is interested in candidates who can create innovative Political Theory courses, with a particular strengths in teaching beyond the traditional political theory “canon,” such as Black political thought, Indigenous political thought, Latinx political thought, or non-western/comparative political thought. Candidates able to teach political theory in conversation with historical and current socio-political context are desired. Candidates with a commitment to innovative pedagogies, including openness to online teaching and robust online pedagogies, are encouraged to apply.
